Six-Peice Funky Progressive Band from Canterbury
Lapis Lazuli is a collection of musicians brought together in Canterbury, Kent (UK). The music captures a wide corpus of styles and influences that appear globally, with a particularly strong presence of Funk, Prog-Rock, Jazz, Afrobeat and Psychedelia. Inspiring talents would include Fela Kuti, King Crimson, Magma, Frank Zappa, The Soft Machine, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Mars Volta, and Stravinksy.
In addition to the traditional rock arrangement of twin guitars, drums and bass, Lapis add a Saxophone plus an interesting variety of instrumental textures ranging from congas, chimes and timbale to synth keys, trumpet, didge pipes and flute. Along with delicately composed tunes, the band may often improvise and cater sets to suit different types of audience.
The band recorded their 2 debut albums simultaneously in early 2012. ‘Reality Is’ and ‘Extended Play’ comprise all of the bands current material and total 2 hours 20 minutes.
The band spent the Summer 2012 touring Europe with 18 shows across Holland, Germany and France with highlights including the Zappanale festival in Bad Doberan, Germany and the International Festival of Performing Arts in Aurillac, France. Lapis continued the Summer with festival dates in the UK including the Smugglers Festival, Kaplick Festival and Alchemy Festival.
In 2013 the band plan to probe deeper into Europe and continue to build their reputation on the UK festival scene as a highly original underground act.
