has anyone else had a problem with this combo?

my friend has panic induced fits when she drinks them and when i say fit we thought it was epilepsy at first it's that serious. i still continued to drink it though because it didnt seem to do much to me. there was one time when i drank a whole pitcher of vodka redbull and i felt a bit nervous but that was all.

this weekend though, i drank one single vodka mixed with "rockstar" which is just another energy drink, and it made me really anxious. how weird, its put me off a bit and i just wondered if anyone else has experienced anything with it?

My friend was downing these the day before he had a heart attack, and died.

He was 24.

I've heard loads of people say they get heart palpitations etc, from it.

I dont think that this is something that has been investigated enough, and I for one wouldn't bother taking the chance to be honest.

My mate thought he was having a heart attack after we saw Mike Park.  He'd been drinking Jolt cola, not even mixing it.  I've known him to drink in the region of eight or nine cups of coffee a day, but three bottles of this Jolt cola bollocks gave him chest pains and shite like that.

My old housemate had to tell his mates before they go out to never buy him vodka red bull, it made him really aggressive.

you can't ban things just because people are stupid.

It's a handy thing to have around, if i'm driving home late at night worn out after a gig i'll sometimes have a can to make sure i'm fully awake.

Just because some people can't understand the concept of moderation doesn't mean that others should suffer!

I mean in the instance that if someone has an underlying heart condition that they dont know about.

Palpitations can cause arrest.  These drinks definatly can.  It's called sudden adult death syndrome or something.

that is a difficult situation, in some ways it falls into the peanut allergy sort of thing, someone may not know that they are allergic, have a peanut and die.

Of course, with Red Bull, the drink is inherently 'bad' so in other ways can't be classed as the same.

Yet, there are many things that are the same e.g. sugary coffe (albeit to a lesser extent) should they also be banned?

I was working on board a cruise ship the other day, which requires using a little platform bolted onto a hole on the side of the ship, the back of of the platform is open in order to allow cages of luggage the room to be landed on there.  We had our little team set up when one bloke came down. He reeked of booze (which would've resulted in him being forced to quit if he'd been drugs tested), but more worrying and annoying was that he'd obviously tried to counter the boozey hangover with caffeine and energy drinks.

This meant that rather than being a bit wobbly and sedate, he was really wobbly and completely hyperactive.  It left a couple of the onboard team quite scared really, it was really reckless at points.  The thing was, if he'd been hungover, he really wasn't fit to work, but having plied himself with stuff like Relentless and Red Bull and an arseload of coffee, he really pushed the limits.

I can't stand the bloody things, I can't stand coke, which isn't really much better,  but I can't seem to give it up (third attempt since I've been home starting now).

I think that any types of refined sugars should be looked at.  Not banned, but definatly restricted.

They do nothing good for us as a society.  And now scientists are saying that refined sugars are a massive cause in Cancer, and definatly heart disease.

The effects they have on kids is phenomenal.  They think that ADHD is now caused by refined sugars in sweets, etc.

The chavs were I work only go off when they have had their "fix" from the tuck shop.  And, DO they go off!

I'm not a fan.  Natural sugars and energy found in natural foods such as fruit is a much better option.

Dont bother with energy drinks.  Just breathe right, and eat nuts and bananas.

Dman - that is SO right.  The only reason why people feel the 'need' for these drink type things is because they are not looking after themselves in other ways - they are probably not eating right and not getting enough rest!!

Plus, how energised do you feel after a walk or something like that - a bout of fresh air is the best wake up call but because hardly anyone makes an effort to get this type of respite, they have to find energy from some place else!

Exactly!

Fresh air has so much energy in it.  I'm very cynical about anything esoteric at all, but I still go with the concept of "Chi" and "Ki" by the Chinese and Japenese.

They say we are inter-connected to everything through our breath.  Right breathing, and being in a natural enviroment, as, like you say going for a walk can do so much for us.

Me and my guitarist used to do Qi-gong and a few stretches outside before every gig.  It released endorphins, and carried us through the gig without the need for any supplements.  We were gigging everynight for a long time, at one point.

I really think people need to be educated about the dangers of too much refined sugar,

Just coming in after reading this whole thread.

I have never had any of this Red Bull type stuff, but like Mo I can get badly hooked on Coca Cola.  It should say on the bottle - DRINK ME AND BECOME A BLOATER - FAST!  I'm adding kilos, again.

Somebody mentioned nut allergy reactions earlier.  I took a lot of kids to a conference at the Winter Gardens, Margate, a few months ago, and one of the kids had the most violent  reaction to something she had eaten which contained nut traces.  We were aware of her condition, and she self-injects and carries shots all the time.  Just in case.  I thought this was a bit of a "trendy" condition to claim you had, but after we had got her out of the balcony and down to an ambulance bound for the QEQM with all lights flashing, I changed my mind.  It's frightening.

I tried the redbull a while back. Got a very short lived lift. Not a big fan of the stuff.

I know what you mean about drinking cola Bryan. It can really pile on the pounds. I lost a fair few when I stopped drinking it at gigs. I still eat crap between propper meals but I've gone from 13 n a half stone to 12 this year.
