Sonic Boom Six + Floors & Walls + 7 Day Conspiracy - Live West Coast / Margate - Fri 27th June 08
After a day in the sunshine then being pissed on it was time to shoot off home and get weaving with a shower and pack my stuff off to meet the bands at the venue. After rushing about I get to the venue at 5pm.
On arrival I meet main support band Floors And Walls who had already arrived. Shortly after that 7 Day Conspiracy turn up. Sonic Boom Six eventually arrive after a delay on the motorway - I guess everyone who travels down here hates the M25!!
Due to the delay in Sonic Boom Six getting there we use the house drum kit and many thanks to Chris from the Warriors for lending us other bits and pieces to make up a full kit.
Once the bands had sound checked the doors were opened and a competely different crowd to what we have at gigs which was cool.
Toast our DJ played a good set of Ska, Ska-Core and Punk tunes throughout the night - Even throwing in a bit of Oi! too!
Come 8.15pm it was time for opening band 7 Day Conspiracy to hit the stage and despite playing to a completely new audience (mainly drum n bass folks) they won a few people over. Even Dan who works behind the bar liked them and that usually isn't his scene. They played a good set of Punk and Ska tunes and if you need a great support band then check these guys out!
Next on were Floors + Walls who combine Drum N Bass with Rock music and throughout their set they just tore the place apart and had almost everyone up on the floor. Cracking band who in hindsight should have been the headline band to keep the audience in. There were a few unimpressed people that these were playing with Sonic Boom Six but the vast majority enjoyed their set including SB6. Certainly a kick ass band to check out. These guys really do deserve to be much bigger than they are.
Despite most of the crowd vanashing after Floors & Walls it was time for Sonic Boom Six and from the moment Laila and Co the stage they rocked. The people who stopped behind to check them out fed on the energy and really had a good time and it was even better to see some of the Drum n Bass crowd mix with the Ska Kids and the couple of older punks who were there. The Sonics had a touch of feedback but the sound was clear coming off the stage so that was good. It was also good to see a band give it their all despite the crowd size and I don't think there was one person who felt short changed after leaving that gig. People came up to me to say they had a good time.
And here are some of the crowd having a good time.
Certainly it was a very positive gig and the East Kent Anarchist Federation managed to shift some leaflets etc which was also a good sign. Not only that but there was another gig going off less than 3 miles away and Totally Wired was on to which took away people so to get 167 through the door was great.
The only negatives would be some of the crowd vanishing too early and the sound being a little too high all night but my mate Andy had consumed 4 bottles of wine and went a little crazy:-)
After the gig Sonic Boom Six and a few of us stopped in the bar until the owner decided he was shattered and decided to shut in the early hours. I downed a shit load of drinks as everyone did and felt half cut when I left the bar.
We all piled back to our place where more alcohol was consumed and Liam wanted to watch the Special Beat DVD so we sat through that.
Some of us sat in the garden making one hell of a racket according to Michelle. I think I piled into bed about 5am when the sun had risen and was blaring out some really hot rays:-)
Cheers to all the bands that played and cheers to you lot for coming.
