This is in response to the March being arranged by My Chemical Romance fans to argue their case that emo isn't depressing, as stated by the Daily Mail.

I say that it'd just be a better option to send them a load of Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World albums.

Depression, self-injury and suicide? Sounds like the after effects of a Leonard Cohen gig.

precisely, Jimmy eat world were around a bazillion years before MCR and all that shite, thats what I call emo, all these stupidly floppy haired bands...

 I call that dross!

as an aside, does it not show how horrendously out of touch the bbc is that they obviously have done little or no research into both emo music and the peopel who follow it, they reference in my opinion the very worst of the genre, they leave out dashboard, J.E.W. get up kids, all the good stuff, its annoyingly upsetting that the bbc chose this pile of wank filler as they're "opinion piece" without actually looking into things

Most of the stuff they're critcising is really poor.

How is it anymore of a "suicide cult" than anything else?

I wrote a 2,000 word on the influence of the media over sub-cultures last week, I could probably argue this for donkeys.

They said the same thing about grunge...

...whilst we were all rolling around in fields, stoned, playing music and laughing a lot whilst listening to it...

They like to generalise.  It makes them feel safe, when they think they can describe everything.  Otherwise the world is to anarchic for them, and they have nosebleeds that taint their white collars.

The world is black and white to these people.  Golf isn't going to play itself, so they need to know they dont need to question anything when they play it.  Black man = bad, just for an example.

How so? The media, in general, is normally very slow in picking up on youth and cub-cultures and take disproportionate pleasure in finally recognising them. Look how long it took them to discover Chavs!

Most people in a sub-culture don't give a rat's piss about the media or anybody else.

The only influence the media has, is the public's perception of the sub-culture and the moralality panic it causes through a basic mis-understanding of what is actually happening.

It won't change because it (the media) will never understand.
