Its occured to me this evening, post drool from previous comments and pre practice into the night.. Why do we hate success in this country. Particularly this county. I mean, and hear me out here my lovelies. Chris from Mental Floss sparked a burning piss off I have had for years now. He is clearly stating, in his own words, that he doesnt see the effect of this whole cutting down on venues thing. He is busier than ever before. But there is a problem. We wont accept it. Some people thrive and work hrder in climates of change. People like Chris. People like Mack. People like EK1, particularly Bryan who pretty much runs the internet world of the band. There is also a guy called Nic Bennett who is currently doing great things for his own career and the gy fromm Cream Dream who is a signed artist now. What do we do as a musical community? Ignore them. Outcast them. Pretend they are not there and hope secretly that they fail. Ive been guilty of it myself in the past. The whole fucking nation cant accept winners and its a fucking sad state of affairs. You want proof? Just take a look the next time someone who doent talk shit regularly in GENERAL CHAT because they are too busy doing something positive posts that they are supporting Metallica in Las Vegas. People like Steve Brand. Everyone ignores them. The Lettabees, really pumping their fat balls int the music world and mocked regularly for over promotion. You know what I say? The first thing I said on this site when I was actually out there throwing my balls about in the music world with one of the most promising bands in Kent. I say, give them some love, they deserve it. Im off to do something positive. Love you all. |

That's just the way people are, dude. I realised that very early in my music career. Unfortunatly i've had it a lot. Lessthanaverages mail that I posted in the other thread is typical. Just because Amber room are in Newton Faulkners top friends, she had a "chuckle" and said all that bad crap... When we were doing well in London, people down here started to isolate us. It generally comes down to jealousy I guess. But I DO think its got a lot better. There is quite a nice community, here on Mrgig at the moment I think. All the political bullshit from a few months back has gone, and people are talking about the creation of music. Oh, and the stuff I'm doing with Bryan is open to vocals and guitar if anyone fancies it. I like the way Jim is getting a lot of input as well. As I said, I think it IS getting better.

There are some ace people around at the moment that I think are absolutely brilliant. The people I have no hesitation in going to when trying to get an honest opinion on my stuff. I get the feeling these people would've listened to that stuff regardless though.
I don't care about getting slated, I really dislike being ignored. I listen to almost everything that gets brought up on here, people promoting new tunes etc. Its been harder of late because my connection has been shite, but I try to. You get the feeling that a lot of people are out for their own good and don't bother with anyone else sometimes.
I know what I do isn't going to be liked by everyone, but I'd rather be told that and know someone bothered giving it a shot, I get the feeling that that there is a lot of people just not bothering. (Cue the abuse
Its always been really important to me that I tout my friends bands as much as possible, top friends on myspace, touting them in bulletins, I'll help them flyer if they ask me etc, its really really important to me because I love what they do and I want to show my support to them. When you get honest opinions from people like Kris, Bry, Keri, Matticus, Rocky etc, and then you get to work with people like my mates, it feels like its so worth it. |

I don't remember a time when it wasn't like this. The moment a local band looks like they are really getting somewhere with their music, out of the woodwork comes the nastiness and back-stabbing, and everyone has some kind of bitchy comment to make about them. T'was ever thus. People do it when they pick up the WWW. They'll see some band or other playing a venue and say: "Huh. I see .... ....... ........ are playing there again. We can't get a foot in the door and we're a thousand times better than they will ever be". |

Looking back, this thread is amusing. Didnt the Lettabee's used to be the Joneses? I've only ever seen one person give them shit, and that's you Keri! Proper shit as well. Twas a long time ago, though. Before your newly reformed self came back here.
