Since the Html editor has been in place, using the forums has become a bit of a chore. The Editor page takes an age to load now (well over a minute in some cases), no matter what browser I try. In some cases it will cause the browser to crash. I'm guessing because the Editor is really Javascript heavy. My main browser is IE7, but FF is no better, and neither is Opera. Safari is crap too. It's not my internet connection because the rest of the site is fine. And so is the rest of the internet. It's not my PC, because my PC is the bollocks. Can we have the option to turn on the Html editor if we want to, and have plain text as the default? It doesn't work on Symbian browsers either, so having the plain as default would be a good thing. Also, on the Gigs page, the new dropdown thing for getting the location is very ropey. The previous system worked well. Why change it? It also doesn't work at-all on Symbian browsers. I use my phone a lot for browsing this site when out and about, and can no longer view the gig guide pages.

In some cases it will cause the browser to crash. I'm guessing because the Editor is really Javascript heavy. My main browser is IE7, but FF is no better, and neither is Opera. Safari is crap too. Hmm, I've had no problems with load times on both my PC and my Mac. I would never have introduced it if I thought is would take too long to load. Even when I have my bittorrent programme running, which seriously slows down my connection, it still only take about ten seconds. It's not my internet connection because the rest of the site is fine. And so is the rest of the internet. It's not my PC, because my PC is the bollocks. Can we have the option to turn on the Html editor if we want to, and have plain text as the default? I have already planned the ability to give people the ability to switch it off. However, until I get more of the real changes I want to make to the site ready, this might be a month or two away from going live. Also, on the Gigs page, the new dropdown thing for getting the location is very ropey. The previous system worked well. Why change it? It also doesn't work at-all on Symbian browsers. I use my phone a lot for browsing this site when out and about, and can no longer view the gig guide pages. Ropey? Can you elaborate? The reason we did this is that the entire underlying structure of how the site works has been upgraded, which has rendered some of Steve's old ways of doing things obsolete. Personally, I found the old popup pages tedious and confusing and was trying to simplify the process. Again I appreciate it doesn't work on mobile browsers, I have a PocketPC too. I am working on a solution that will work with these browsers. Does anyone else have any comments about the drop downs? The only thing that slightly irks me is the fact that Firefox (and I think IE) try to be helpful and autopopulate the field for you, which renders the page useless as you need to actually click the new Mr Gig dropdown to set the various location/band/venue variables in the form properly. However, we felt that the search itself was effective enough to forego this one minor quibble. |

10 seconds is still too long if you ask me, but I would be happy if it was that quick! Due to where I live I can only get a 2Meg download speed, but that's fine for the rest of the site. It wouldn't take much effort to put in a toggle switch to turn the html editor on, and have it turned off by default, would it? Gigs page: If I type in "Margate", the dropdown list appears, the disappears several times. I eventually get it to select "Margate, Kent", then it shows the gigs. I then click the clear town button and enter "Canterbury". The same thing happens, only this time without even click a thing it defaults back to the Margate listing. Then if I try Margate again, it does the same thing with the dropdown list but doesn't give me time to select anything before it disappears again. Why does "Barnican, London" appear in a Canterbury search? Why does "Westmarsh, Canterbury, Kent" appear in a search for "Marg"? I don't have autopopulate switched on.

I'm barely getting half a meg here now, and it runs fine on Safari, and XP. Does it in a click. |

Do you have page caching turned on in the browser settings? |

If it took five seconds at best to load normally, it definitely would never have seen the light of day... As for the search, at the moment it set to seach any part of a place name for what you are typing in... Why does "Barnican, London" appear in a Canterbury search? Why does "Westmarsh, Canterbury, Kent" appear in a search for "Marg"? I did set it to only look at the start of words, but then if people typed in Hythe, not realising West Hythe, possilbly a better match for them, was an option, they might never find it. It's doing a lookup after every key press, so if your connection to the site is, as it seeems to be, a bit on the slow side, it might take a while to catch up with you. I'll investigate this further, see if there's any room for enhancing the performance. The option to turn the editor off is, as I say, on my to do list, it's just not a very high priority at the moment and probably won't be for a week or two until I regain some kind of normality now that my new baby daughter is on the scene |

They may move out at 18, but when they are 20 they move back in (sometimes with hubby/partner) then once the kids have moved back in they discover they are pregnant and they are still staying with said parents until the solicitors sort out the hold ups for the house they are buying It's what Pat and I did to my parents!!! And I had a bloody awful pregnancy too, which made it even worse for my poor parents - still being waited on hand and foot was nice!! Pat and I ended up at my parents for 6 months (was only supposed to be a month!!!) Moral to this story (yep there is one!) as soon as your child leaves home, move to a smaller house so you haven't got room to take them back!!!
