I need the following information for my website (www.freewebs.com/kentbandarchive): I'm trying to find some info on Whitstable Crustcore / Grindcore / Hardcore / Punk band ATAVISTIC: I know that Patrick McKernan played Bass (he's now a solo Folk/Blues guitarist), and the other two were Jeremy and John, but I don't know who played what. I assume one's guitar, the other drums. Who did vocals? Pat and Jeremy shared lyric duties, so did they both sing? One of them died a while back (not Pat) -- which one? Someone told me that Pat had died, then I got a shock a few months later when I bumped into him at a gig! What happened to the other member? Any more details gladly received. I'm also after info on Whitstable band EPIDEMIC and Dover band PHUCT UP from the similar time/scene. I know nothing apart from the names. Cheers
BTW: yes, I've tried emailing Patrick for information, but I've had no reply... |

They played with Fightback a couple of times ,.as did Epidemic,I'll have a rummage, got their ep,and should have some demos SOMEWHERE.
The Phuc-tup lot knocked around dover a little later. Knew them at the time, think they've all either moved away or died! See what i can find. Edited: Alien - Tue 11 Mar 2008 (5:11PM) |

Cheers, that'd be great. I've just bought the "Vanishing Point" LP on Ebay, but there's minimal info on the sleeve. I've also downloaded the eps, but obvoiusly there's no info there either, just the mp3s. I'd be interested in hearing the demos, if you can find them... |

Epidemic - apart from the Fightback gigs, I'm sure I saw them support Gene Loves Jezebel at one of the Canterbury Unis, didn't they also do a flexi disc for one of the metal mags at the time? I've got photos of them from the Anti-System gig somewhere...
Edit - and no-one ever asks about Fightback.

I have the Epidemic flexi-disc and the Atavistic demo tape. Atavistic played at three of our (Fightback) gigs at least. But they never asked us to play at any of their gigs! . |

ATAVISTIC, that's a blast from the past. I used to go to school with the 2 of the boys from ATAVISTIC, Jeremy and Paddy. Jeremy was in my year and Paddy was a couple of years younger. Jez (as he like to be called) played guitar and shouted a lot, Paddy was very talented even back then, he could turn his hand to most instruments and played them better than us all! Jez moved to Scotland where he got married and had children, my friend still keeps in touch with him by email Paddy does his folk projects and i haven't seen him for years Unfortunately John the drummer was killed in a tragic motorcycle accidents. At the time my band and Jez's band played many gigs together in and around Whitstable, Faversham and Canterbury. The drummer in my band is the friend of Jez's I mentioned earlier (see above) Jez's bands were called
My bands were called
We used to play the Harbour Lights in Whitstable which was a real boozer for drinking scrumpy cider, smoking black and listening to Motorhead. Good times, Good times. |

I assume from all this that you guys played in Fightback. That's a new name to me, if you give me the appropriate details (see the website), I'll be happy to add a page. And any other bands.
This whole Whitstable / Thanet / Dover hardcore scene just gets more and more interesting as I get further into it... I just wish I had been born a bit earlier! I'm afraid I only got on the scene in 1993.
EDIT -- Doh, another post added whilst I was doing mine... Cheers for the info, you're a star! Edited: johnwood666 - Wed 12 Mar 2008 (8:38PM) |

At one of our 365 club gigs the Atavistic boys played Slayer and Metallica stuff for 20 minutes with no vocals.
Phug-Tup Rocker: Guitar. Goff: Bass (one string). Bolt eyed Pete: Drums. Livey: Vocals. Brivio: More vocals. I liked Phug-tup .They were indeed fucked-up, I'm sure they played with us at The Ambulance Hall and the Coombe Valley Squat. Edited: herbivore - Wed 12 Mar 2008 (10:14PM) |

Fantastic poster! £1 for 10 bands, indeed. How things have changed. More like £10 for 1 band... Asoa: Do you know Jez and John's surnames? Ian Glasper (Hardcore journalist) is also trying to trace ex-ATAVISTIC members for a book he's researching on UKHC. I've given him Pat's email, but as Pat hasn't replied to me, I wonder whether he'll reply to Ian too. If he can trace Jez in Scotland that'll probably help him out. Could you get his email off your friend?
I know Rocker. I didn't realise he played in Phuq Tup. He now sings in HOFFMAN SOUND. Before that he was in THE SLUGS and CLITS OF ORIS, and he's been doing his OAK ACETATOR thing for years. I'll have to "extract" some details from him.
Cheers to everybody for the help. Keep it coming. |
