Neubauten, Killing Joke + Treponem Pal -- absolute class. Saw Neubauten live back in 2000 (ish), the advertising said "plus Special Guests", which in fact turned out to be an installation hanging from the ceiling making random clattering noises. How cool is that? Neubauten's set was sublime, ranging from the ultra-laid-back "Silence Is Sexy" through to the sheer brutal pummeling of "Headcleaner"
Kind of gone off Neubauten recently though. Read an interview a few years back in Wire magazine, where Blixa was saying they had created this great-sounding track using just a suitcase, but discarded it because they couldn't justify a reason for it. I was thinking "but if it sounds good...?" That's kind of why I've stopped listening to much experimental stuff. The constant search for The New is ultimately pointless. Sure, keep trying new things, but don't let that be your only motive. Old ideas can be great too. Edited: johnwood666 - Sat 2 Aug 2008 (3:01PM) |

I used to love Skyclad. "Jonah's Ark" (3rd album) was a great album, after that I think they went a bit astray. That was just the right mix of Thrash and Folk. Martin Walkyier is one of the better class of true British nutters. |
